Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Recap (“Recap,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website, application, and related services (the “Service”). Recap turns long-form video into short clips. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. For how you may use Recap, see our Terms of Service.

Our commitments at a glance

  • We do not train AI or machine-learning models on your videos, transcripts, or clips to build general-purpose models for ourselves or others.
  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not rent or trade it for advertising lists.
  • We process your media to provide the Service you request—such as transcription, highlight detection, clip generation, storage, and optional publishing you initiate.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Recap, we may collect:

  • Account information — such as name, email address, password or auth credentials, and profile details associated with your login provider.
  • Billing information — plan selection, subscription status, and payment-related details processed by our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers on our servers when payments are handled by a processor such as Stripe).
  • User Content — videos and related files you upload, plus derived data such as transcripts, thumbnails, clip files, titles, and processing metadata.
  • Usage and device data — approximate logs of product usage, feature interactions, diagnostics, IP address, browser/device type, and similar technical data needed to operate and secure the Service.
  • Connected accounts — if you connect a third-party service (for example, YouTube), we receive tokens and profile information needed to perform the actions you authorize.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve Recap (including generating clips and transcripts);
  • Authenticate you, secure accounts, and prevent abuse;
  • Meter usage, enforce plan limits, and process billing;
  • Respond to support requests and communicate service-related notices;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms; and
  • Analyze aggregate or de-identified trends to understand product performance (not to train models on your private media).

3. Your videos and AI processing

When you upload a video, we process it so Recap can do what you asked—for example, transcribe speech, identify candidate moments, render short clips, and store results for your account. That processing may use automated systems, including third-party infrastructure providers operating under contract with us.

We do not use your uploaded videos, generated clips, or transcripts to train AI or machine-learning models for Recap’s general model development, and we do not sell that media to third parties for their model training. Processing is performed to deliver the Service to you, to maintain and secure the Service, and to fix quality issues related to your requests—not to build foundation models from customer libraries.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in these limited situations:

  • Service providers — vendors who help us host, process media, authenticate users, process payments, send email, or provide analytics/security, bound by contractual obligations to use data only for services they perform for us.
  • Integrations you choose — for example, if you post a clip to YouTube, the content and metadata you choose to publish are sent to that platform under your authorization and subject to their policies.
  • Legal and safety — when we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of Recap, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if Recap is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

5. Retention

We retain account information while your account is active and as needed for billing, security, and legal compliance. Source media, clips, and related files are retained according to your plan’s retention settings and product features (including deletion you initiate). After deletion or account closure, residual copies may remain briefly in backups or logs until purged in the ordinary course.

6. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials and for downloading copies of content you need before retention windows expire.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for authentication, security, preferences (such as theme), and basic product operation. Where we use optional analytics cookies, we do so to understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling certain cookies may limit Service functionality.

8. Children’s privacy

Recap is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can often manage account details and delete content within the Service. To make a privacy request, contact us using the options available in the Service. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

If you use Recap from a region with additional privacy laws (such as the EEA, UK, or California), we will honor applicable rights to the extent required, including the right not to have personal information sold—which we already do not do.

10. International processing

We may process and store information in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective means you acknowledge the updated Policy.

12. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, use the contact options provided in the Service or your account settings. Related terms governing use of Recap are in our Terms of Service.
